Improving soil and pasture health with rotational Regenerative Grazing of multiple species of livestock
An exciting Pasture Walk was held at Fresh Pasture Farms, LLC in Millstadt, IL, during July! The event was organized in partnership with the Illinois Grazing Lands Coalition to provide a valuable field day. Attendees had the opportunity to see firsthand how rotational grazing management can benefit the environment and farms.
During the tour, participants met farmers Wade, his wife Jamie, and their parents, Norman and Sandy Sutter, who shared their experiences. They demonstrated how they improved soil health, increased native grasses, and tackled invasive species by rotating heritage breeds of sheep, goats, cattle, hogs, and chickens across many acres of beautiful land. The focus was on nurturing pastures to enhance animal health and reduce costs.
Following the tour, everyone was invited to stay for a locally sourced meal provided by Cafe on the Abbey, featuring seasonal ingredients. It was a great opportunity to ask questions, continue conversations, and connect with others interested in regenerative, rotational grazing practices.
